The Perception of Chiropractic Care
If you have been apprehensive about chiropractic care, or have had a negative experience in the past, you’re not alone.
When speaking with new and perspective patients, I often find myself hearing a version or combination of the following:
- I don’t like/don’t want to have my back “cracked”
- I was going to the chiropractor 3 times per week for months
- I’d feel better for that day and the pain would return
- My appointments were 5 minutes and always the same thing
- I didn’t feel like they addressed my concerns
These experiences shape how people perceive chiropractic care, and can lead to hesitation towards seeking help in the future.
And honestly, I don’t blame them.
Why This Perception Exists
In many clinics, care can look like:
- Short duration, high-volume appointments
- Focused on temporary pain relief
- Centered around passive treatment only
- Pressure to pay for long-term treatment plans
It’s no surprise that this leads to skepticism, confusion, and lack of trust.

What Quality Chiropractic Care Should Look Like
Fortunately, there are a lot of great chiropractors in the community who do things differently. At the core, quality care should be about assessing for and solving a problem, not just temporary pain relief.
At function health + wellness, we believe that the patient’s best interest, not a business model should be the number 1 priority.
If you’re searching for quality chiropractic care, it should include:
- Taking the time to understand what is going on
- Identifying WHY the issue is happening, not just where it hurts
- Give you a clear plan and expected timeline
- A combination hands-on treatment, education, and active rehab strategies
- Progress care over time, not just repeating the same time over and over
At the end of the day, you should feel more empowered and confident in your body, not more dependent on care.

The Results of Quality Chiropractic Care
At function health + wellness, it takes a chiropractic patient an average of 5-6 visits over 4-8 weeks before they feel their injury is fully resolved and they are back to doing what they love without concerns or hesitation.
While some require more care and some less, we are proud of the work we do in helping people achieve their health goals.
