Frequently Asked Questions

What should I visit a chiropractor for?

Chiropractors are muscle, joint, and nervous system experts! At function health + wellness, we have extensive training in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of musculoskeletal conditions from headaches to ankle sprains. A short list of conditions we commonly treat are: headaches, neck pain, back pain, sciatic pain, rotator cuff injuries, tennis + golfers elbow, carpal tunnel, hip + knee pain, and plantar fasciitis.

Not sure if seeing a chiropractor is right for you? We always offer complimentary 15-minute meet and greets where we can get introduced, discuss our approach to care, and help you determine if we’re the right fit for your healthcare team.

Do I need an initial assessment to see a chiropractor?

At function health + wellness, our thorough initial assessment will allow us to the best of our abilities diagnose the underlying cause of your complaints and determine the best course of treatment. Therefore, the initial assessment is required for all new patients visiting one of our chiropractors.

During the assessment, we will ask you questions regarding your current complaints and health status, as well as any relevant previous health concerns. Then, we will take you through the physical examination to determine which tissues, structures, joints, or movements may be the cause. Once we have determined a likely diagnosis, we will discuss treatment options and alternatives, and answer any questions that you may have. In most cases we’re able to begin treatment during this visit however, we may decide to hold off if further investigation is required (ie. imaging, or a followup visit to your family doctor)

What will my treatments look like?

Treatment sessions may vary from appointment to appointment, you can expect a combination of: education, soft tissue therapy, joint mobilizations, joint manipulation/adjustments, acupuncture, cupping, percussion therapy, acupuncture and active rehabilitation.

While not every session will involve all of these modalities, current research shows that a combination of these in your treatment plan can lead to best outcomes.

How long are the treatment sessions and what can I expect?

Any subsequent treatment sessions will range from 25-30 minutes depending on the case. While the treatment’s themselves will vary, you can expect a combination of the modalities listed above during these sessions.

How many treatments will it take until I am better?

The amount of treatment sessions will vary from case to case. Many factors are considered including the nature of the pain/injury, current and previous health status, and your goals.

At function health + wellness, each patient is presented with an individualized treatment plan designed to best manage their needs, preferences, and achieving their goals. Our aim is to get you feeling better in as few sessions as possible while providing you with the knowledge and resources for you to feel empowered in taking a proactive approach in elevating your health. Sometimes this means patients are 100% recovered after 1-3 sessions, while others require continued support over a longer period of time.
